Wowsa, we are in the final stretch! If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been hustling in a major way this week! I shared a few IG stories of my grasscloth cabinet DIY and I finally finished it yesterday, yeesss! Here’s a look at it accompanied with my new Minted artwork the killer lamp I mentioned last week:

We also painted the space with Farrow & Ball’s Cornforth White. I’m so thrilled with the color, it’s a light creamy gray that is a touch warmer & darker than our existing paint & it makes the space feel so much more cozy #thepowerofpaint!

With the grasscloth DIY out of the way, it’s finally time to talk pretty details.

My stylist friend/guru Olga, (re: last weeks post) helped me find accents with awesome character, they’ve all arrived and are even better in person!

Some seriously cool crystal:

obelisk / candleholders

& through Chairish I discovered an amazing shop, Fig + Stone. Their offering is spot on & one of the founders, Ariel Fulmer, is also a One Kings Lane alum - as a vintage buyer, of course!

Here is some goodness from the shop that will just make it on time for the shoot:

There is still a lot to do so wish me luck! You can check out my interim scheming on Instagram & Pinterest

Week III

Woof – it’s only been a week since my last update?! It feels like a month! Between traveling to High Point this weekend (I saw so much goodness!) & moving out of our Atlanta apartment yesterday, very little progress has been made on our living room design!

That said, the little progress makes me very happy – I came home to the gorgeous mix of pillows from the talented ladies of Little Design Co. and Arianna Belle that I mentioned last week.

Also, these petite ottomans greeted me; the photos do them little justice, Liven Up Design made my upholstery dreams come true!

With the stress of moving, a very happy surprise was that my friend, Olga Naiman, will be in town for my ORC reveal. Olga is a wickedly talented stylist & her volunteering to round out my vision is so exciting – I know she’ll take it to the next level! I met Olga when she was styling my friend Michelle Adam's home for house beautiful:

Proper praise for Olga requires a dedicated post, but I thought it would be fun to share items she choose for the space that I would have never dreamed up.

For the small wall leading into the living room, I knew I wanted a bar cart moment. I had chosen this classic cart from ATG Stores & Olga suggested a wallpaper to make the slim space pop. We landed on this graphic Belevedre option - cross your fingers the paper arrives on time as I'm ordering it today!

With all of the newness in the space, we agreed the design needed pieces with rich textures & history – hello bone side table & gorgeous finds with a story. I would have never chosen the beautiful funky lamp & now I cannot wait to get it in the space!

As I said - little progress!

I'm in major crunch mode but I'm choosing to focus on my excitement for everything to come together & not the fact that there is way too much to do (paint, finish the cabinet DIY, hang wallpaper & window treatments, & hope everything arrives on time!)

Wish me luck, it's going to be a race to the finish!

Week I

Week II

I haven’t made nearly as much progress on the space as I would have hoped to have in the past week but the little that I have has gotten me very excited!

First, I took a turn at the DIY I mentioned last week, a grass cloth covered cabinet to replace the console in the room. We are swapping the console for the cabinet in my office & moving the television – we rarely use it here and some storage in the space would be helpful.

(I originally covered the cabinet in faux Shagreen but the fabric was too thick to properly wrap it and it’s become an eyesore.)

Needless to say, I’ve been dreaming of this DIY for a bit and was delighted to find this beautiful grasscloth from ATG Stores !  I wrapped one of the doors to ensure my scheming would be successful & I’m thrilled with how it looks! After I tackle the whole piece I’ll be sure to share the DIY but here’s a peek:

Another item on my wish-list for this room was to update the light fixture.

I have loved this Crystroma brouche pendant forever, it has such versatility; elegant with a slight edge. I had a hard time choosing the finish because they’re all soo good! In the end I thought the white would go with my coastal inspiration perfectly. Professional photos will do this piece justice but here’s snaps of my love in the interim, a quick before & after to capture the goodness:

The effect now is very light on light on white but we are refreshing the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Cornforth white so everything will have more contrast & richness. I’m so jazzed about their paint (and website) that I’ll save those thoughts for next week!

I have a ton too do but I’m optimistic. More details next week & in the interim,

One Room Challenge - Design Plans

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décortextiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

I’m so excited to be participating in my fourth season of One Room Challenge, this go-around I’m making over our living room.

As I mentioned last week, my chief issue with the space is that it’s not inviting, secondly, it does not have any sort of cohesive design, #guilty. Today I’m sharing my plans to make the space inviting and easy on the eyes.

This sunroom designed by Lindsey Ellis Beatty is consistently my inspiration for the aesthetic I want to achieve, (especially for our living room), it’s gorgeous, filled with character, and incredibly inviting to boot!

The palette for our living rooms is blues & neutrals, with pops of blush pink. I want to layer in a lot of texture to make the space inviting as well.

Here’s my punch list for making the room more warm & beautiful:

Larger Rug

Comfier Side Chairs

Add window treatments

Replace Coffee Table with Ottoman

Paint room slightly darker & a warmer hue

Do something with TV cords/media stand, (clever DIY in mind here)

Update lighting fixture

I’ve got a LOT of decisions to make in the next few days but I have, for the most part, settled on my textiles as I believe are the foundation for a space. I’ve also chosen our comfy new chairs, here’s a mock-up of where I’m at now:

The textile mix will be our navy shagreen, brushstroke, & palm beach blooms fabric. I'm using the PB blooms for pillows & stools that LivenUpDesign is crafting – their pieces are so beautifully made! To incorporate pops of blush, I’m layering in these beauties from Arianna Belle.

I haven’t mentioned that this is an awkward sized space - it requires a larger rug but too large & it would block the French doors of our adjoining office. The width of the rug constrains the depth of the chairs we can fit on the rug. It's taken me a bit of time to find the biggest rug (with not being too big).

Enter the perfect 10’x14’ beachy bleached oak rug from Dash & Albert. I was looking for a luxurious jute rug that was very light in color, not warm red tones like our previous one, and I knew this rug would be the perfect fit. We just received it & it’s too good to be true – it’s already transformed the room, the space looks so much bigger & brighter! It's very soft underfoot too.

I’ve wanted bobbin chairs for the longest time & knew this space would be the perfect place for them. After much hunting for bobbin chairs that are large enough to be comfy but small enough to fit on our new rug, I finally found these petite bobbins from Front Gate. I love that the almost black wood of the chairs will anchor all of the lightness in the space.

Again, there are so many decisions to make & at the top of my list is what brushstroke color to go with for the window treatments – I love the blush but that would be my usual route and I want to mix it up a bit so I'm leaning towards the aqua

Which would you choose?!

I've got a bit more to go with bringing everything together

& you can catch my interim scheming on Instagram & Pinterest.
