ONE ROOM CHALLENGE - WEEK IV

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décor, textiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

You can catch up on my the planning and progress for my One Room Challenge:

Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3

I’m way behind.

I had high hopes for this past week, reupholster our dining chairs, get our killer new artwork framed, plan out and order décor, to name a few tasks left on my list. But almost immediately upon my return to Atlanta, I was on a flight back to Michigan. My husband’s mother has been in pain for a long time and now Loretta’s dancing with her husband & Jesus in heaven. Needless to say it really puts everything in perspective.

Let me share with you some gorgeous artwork & décor that I did have a chance to see before left.

If you follow me on social media , you know I’m a huge fan of Gray Malin. We have his 'Skinny Dip' & 'Bondi Beach' in our Ann Arbor home:

And I’m geeked to add this oversized St. Tropez piece to our living area. I’m DIYing an acrylic frame for it & I'll be sharing the tutorial on Gray’s blog so stay tuned!

Highland hardware is my go-to for gorgeous stand-offs and they have kits if DIYs aren’t your jam.

I found the artist Hayley Mitchell on Instagram last fall and have been patiently waiting for the perfect time to partner with her. Hayley painted a custom piece for our bedroom and it’s simply stunning:

I’m layering in pops of black throughout the apartment to help create tension with all of the bright colors. This palm piece from Artfully Walls is too good to be true for three reasons. It meets my beachy-glam vibe, it’s black, AND matted & framed it covers the electrical box on the wall adjacent to our bed (good ol apartment living)! With the help of Command hanging stickers an eyesore is new eye candy!

Speaking of black beauties, I went with Jill Sorenson’s deco bedding and I cannot wait for it to arrive!

I've always wanted sconces for a bedroom & I fell in love with these Newport sconces from

Lamps Plus. Their timeless style will juxtapose the mid century modern nightstands beautifully!

I’m going to have to majorly hustle to get the apartment to a fraction of my dream state but I’ll do my best! You can follow my progress (or lack of) in the interim on

One Room Challenge - OUR ATL Apartment Pt III Playing Favorites

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décor, textiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

You can catch up on my initial planning for my One Room Challenge here & here

This week I’m not really playing favorites as I’m pretty excited about each element of our new apartment, more like describing some long-awaited design dreams coming true!

First, up, our insanely stunning new Shanghai Credenza by Selamat designs. It’s part of their new partnership with Florence Broadhurst & I suggest checking out the entire dreamy collection, stat! I’ve never been head over heels for a media cabinet and when I saw this one, it was love at first sight, done & done.

Another item I’ve always wanted is a vanity type situation, which I’ll be creating in our bedroom in front of the window.

The set-up will be exactly like below, fitting as the Ballard Alissa console is the one I’m going with! Obviously I love lucite & the shelf is just enough storage.

The Selamat Justinian chair will be the prettiest place to perch.

Finally I have always wanted a daybed & the lovely team at Taylor Burke completely made my dream come true – here’s a sneak peek at it in our

brushstroke fabric! This terrible photo does it no justice.

I hope to make a lot of progress this week, I was in Michigan painting lamp orders last week (including these amazing black gold lamps the brillz Jill Sorenson requested for her ORC) and am feeling quite behind – wish me luck in playing catch up!

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE - OUR ATL Apartment PART II

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décor, textiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

This week I’m excited to share more in-depth plans for my One Room Challenge, a.k.a our new Atlanta apartment!

I believe textiles are the foundation for a space & it is a such a delight designing with our newly launched textiles!

Palm Beach blooms in vibrant pastels will be the anchoring floral print for our apartment – I want the spaces to feel airy and coastal with hints of Hollywood Regency glamour, I know this print is spot-on for the desired vibe. I’ll also use it to reupholster our dining room chairs and for pillows throughout.

Our brushstroke fabrics drape in a dreamy way, so I’ll be using them for curtains in both rooms. I'm also using the blush pink brushstroke fabric in a Taylor Burke lounger for the living area, it's going to be amazing!

I’m using the aqua shagreen fabric for the headboard and a custom ottoman. The talented team at New Day Woodwork is creating the ottoman; I’ve wanted to partner with them for the longest time & I know they will craft the perfect piece!

A few neutral anchors are necessary to balance this confection of colors & patterns; namely our dining table, new sofa, & rug.

The dining/entry space greets you upon entry & it will be reflective of what’s to come – pattern & color, absolutely, but with solid statement pieces to provide ease for the eyes. The sofa & rug will create that balance in the living area.

My husband has never found our sofa comfortable, due to its size. As a man who doesn’t complain of my frequent use of aqua & pink, it's high time to rectify the situation! Also, any excuse to partner with Roxy Te of Society Social – I’m down! We’ve created a custom tight-back Monroe sofa in white linen. I know it will look sensational and the more generous proportions will make for a comfy couch, I cannot wait for it to arrive!

Then, this rug from Rugs USA to the rescue! I wanted a huge coastal-inspired rug and after a months-long search I stumbled upon it. The reviews were consistently positive to boot! It just arrived and it's even better than I had hoped.

That about covers my vision for the textiles!

Stay tuned for progress updates, you can keep up with my scheming in the interim on instagram & pinterest @janabekdesign.

One Room Challenge - Our Atlanta Apartment Part I

Hello All! If you’re here for the first time, I’m Jana, an interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décor, textiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

My husband and I split our time between Atlanta & Ann Arbor, MI. We moved into our Atlanta apartment last winter and I’ve been practicing patience in thinking through how the spaces should look, function, & feel. We’ve made some progress and I’m using the One Room Challenge to bring the apartment to life in short order! If you are unfamiliar with ORC, it's a friendly event hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where design enthusiasts make over a space in the course of 5 weeks and on the sixth week we share the reveals. This will be my third time participating, I completed my office & great room with adjoining breakfast nook in previous ORCs:

Let me show you the ‘befores’, the little updates we’ve made, & vision for our Atlanta apartment.

We have a one bedroom apartment, the dining/living area is an open concept so I want to create separate spaces that compliment each other & transition with ease.

Here is the living/dining room area:

Here is the bedroom:

As I’ve said, I’ve been practicing patience but I’ve made a little bit of progress. This apartment designed by Michelle Adam’s is the exact layout I want for the living/dining area & I know it will work out perfectly:

Here is where the entry/dining area is now, inspired by Michelle's layout, that's our gorgeous new Saarinen style dining table from Rove Concepts:

Some inspiration for the nook was drawn from this confection by Summer Thorton:

I'll go deeper into my vision next week but here are a few ideas perculating:

I've currently become obsessed with patterned fabric lampshades - this post peaked my interest and now I see them everywhere! I think patterned shades will be perfect for the sconces I'm planning on using in our bedroom.

The vibe Lindsey Ellis Beatty achieved in this space alway speaks to me as the easiest of elegance with the perfect Palm Beach panache:

The color palette is going to be lots of white with pops of my favorite colors - turquoise, coral, blush pink, & pops of citrine yellow, similar to the balance of hue in these spaces:

(PS - if you love palm beach living & hollywood regency glamour, you definitely want to follow The Glam Pad on pinterest, Andrea's pins are on point!)

Our living room is in great need of greenery, with my black thumb, I'm partnering with my friends at NDI for the perfect fit - I am FAUX real!
