Posts in Room Reveals
ORC - Major Update, updating an additional room!

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an Ann Arbor based interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décortextiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

I missed the last two One Room Challenge updates, both as a result of a very inspiring Zephyr designer retreat I attended in San Francisco in early October. I can’t wait to tell you about it in upcoming post! I returned even more excited about my ORC and decided to update the guest room and my stepson’s room.

Neither of the spaces are offensive but, as I mentioned last week, the guest room has been the landing ground for misfit furniture and decor through the years. Then, Orion’s is in need of updating.

Here’s the guest room again:

In reworking my ORC, it made more sense to have Orion’s be the California, street- style inspired room, and the guest room to be a more zen retreat.

I thought it’d be fun to download you with how I’m now using the pieces originally planned for the guest room, into both of the spaces, how I’m getting creative, and even shopping our home to make these designs come together.

I’ve long been in love with these two Schumacher prints, originally for the guest room, and they will now be split between the two spaces.

I’m going to reupholster Orion’s headboard in the taupe Nuba, and make throw pillows in the mirage Moncorvo for the guest room.

These fun, skater inspired artworks by Artfully Walls & Kristi Kohut will head to Orion’s room.

A new GradinRoad headboard will remain in the guest room. I know the low profile will make the room feel larger and bring a hygge feeling to the space.

The guest room needed a huge beautiful rug to make it inviting, I’ve used the Frontgate Destin rug for many design clients, knew it would be the perfect fit:

There are so many other design decisions to be made, that I have to make now, to ensure each rooms gets completed on time! I’m choosing to have fun with the process while juggling Jana Bek Design, rather than getting stressed! Wish me luck and I hope you’ll come back next week for my progress updates!

Come back next Wednesday for updates, and In the interim, you can find my scheming on Instagram & pinterest.

This season I’ve decided to makeover our guest bedroom. It’s always been the room that inherits leftover furniture and decor so it has zero sense of design.

Our most frequent visitors tend to be nephews and nieces, and one of their favorite activities is to people watch and skate at our local skate park so a relaxed, cool vibe is inspiring the look. I’ve found a lot of inspiration in Nina Freudenberger's Surf Shack, and I know I’m incorporating this awesome Artfully Walls piece, Boy’s on Skates, into the design.

I want the room to be a little offbeat & funky, but still pulled together. I’m a little worried it may look contrived, so wish me luck. I’ll be in San Fran next week for an exciting designer retreat so I’ve got to kick my planning into high gear!

Come back next Wednesday for updates, and In the interim, you can find my scheming on Instagram & pinterest.

Room Reveal: Poolside Refresh with Frontgate

This summer we partnered with Frontgate to refresh our poolside patio and I'm excited to share the transformation with you!

We’ve enjoyed our Carlisle outdoor furniture for almost ten years. To that end, I must highlight that Frontgate's quality and customer service, is absolutely top notch. The level of detail they consider when crafting their products is evident. From the prints lining up on the cushion ties, to the furniture still looking beautiful after withstanding a decade of Michigan elements, when you purchase FG furniture, you can relax in knowing that the pieces are as durable as they are easy on the eyes.

So while the pieces themselves were still in fine form, our original yellow and green color scheme was feeling a bit tired. Coupled with the need for new barstools, our outdoor area was begging for a new lease on life!

Here's a look at the before:

To create our outdoor oasis, we went for a classic navy & white resort vibe. I’m so happy with the crisp stripes and in knowing this timeless design will always feel fresh!

Here’s some additional peeks at the transformation:

One Room Challenge - THE Kitchen REVEAL

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! I’m Jana Bek, an Ann Arbor based interior designer with an emerging lifestyle line of home décortextiles, & lighting. I have a love for bright colors, bold prints, and designing spaces & home décor that help transport you to your dream destination.

I’m so excited to be participating in my fifth season of One Room Challenge & and a huge thanks to Linda of Calling it Home for organizing!

I’m so thrilled to share our kitchen reveal with you – the space is finally in line with the bright & airy aesthetic of our home! A big thanks to Marta Perez for capturing it so beautifully!

Let's recall the before:

The stunning Fireclay tile completely transformed the space, taking it to the ceiling made such a huge impact! The kiwi color really is the happiest shade of green.

We painted the cabinets Farrow & Ball’s James white, the shade has just enough warmth to compliment the green tones throughout the space, it’s a beautiful color. (This was our painter’s first time using F&B paints, he concluded it was the best paint he’s ever used).

The Eldridge pendants set off the space beautifully, and our Dayna counter stools reinforce the coastal vibe I’m always after.

I reupholstered the stool cushions in our aqua Shagreen fabric to add more color, I love how it compliments the tile!

To add character & interest into the shelves, I layered in artwork and vintage finds.

I especially love the colors in the Bananas’s Ripening & Tzealim pieces.

The space is so inviting, it’s such a happy place to cook & congregate!
