Tastemaker Tour with Brighton Keller

We’ve long been fans of Brighton Keller, style maven behind her eponymous blog Brighton the Day. While fashion is her forte, Brighton's inspiring aesthetic knows no bounds, just look at her beautiful bedroom! Today we are chatting with Brighton about her thoughts on creating a space that is as pulled together as the perfect ensemble.

As Instagram addicts, we quickly found that your mom, Dee Keller, has a killer knack for designing interiors (in addition to her gorgeous shoe line). Has her interior dΓ©cor savvy helped you in designing your own spaces?

Absolutely! I essentially ran everything by her when it came to decorating my room. She has the best taste and she's always able to pull a room together no matter the style! In this space, the headboard was her idea and she helped me navigate the process of getting it custom made since I wanted such an oversized, statement-making look!

(Our blush brushstroke lamp has never sat so pretty!)

In a nutshell, I would say her top tips are the following:

  • don't confine yourself to being matchy-matchy, just make sure you've got some balance and unity in color scheme to pull it all together

  • mix vintage pieces with new for character

  • don't go color crazy - narrow it down to a few key, dominant colors

Designing a space is similar to piecing a look together. What was the foundation for your bedroom design and how did you layer from there?

The foundation for my bedroom design was absolutely the headboard! It was the first piece I committed to so it was my reference point in choosing everything else. An oversized tufted headboard with gilded edges lends itself to a more refined, traditional look but I wanted to add a little funk and fun so I threw in the palm print x-benches!

What items do you recommend investing in a room design & where would you save?

Rugs are a great place to save, especially if you can find one in the 75% OFF section on Rugs USA like I did! Then, I got the look of Restoration Hardware drapery rods with a much more affordable Amazon find. I splurged on my light fixture because I knew it would totally transform the space!

What home stores should we check out when we visit Dallas?

Nest, Mecox , Blue Print
